The Honolulu Magazine featured the stories of 17 World War II Nisei Veterans in a December 2019 article called, “Soldiering On.” Veterans from the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and Military Intelligence Service shared their memories of what they did after they returned to Hawaii from the war zone.
The article won the prestigious 2020 City and Regional Magazine Association’s Award for Multiplatform Storytelling. The staff writer of the article was Jayna Omaye and the photographer was Aaron K. Yoshino. Both their grandfathers were soldiers of the 442nd RCT.
Subsequently they produced a video of behind the scenes experience of what went into conducting the veterans' interviews, and preparing the article for publication. Go here to see the video: https://youtu.be/UdpGUKAs1DQ
