Hawaii organizations dedicated to perpetuating the legacy of these honored Soldiers of the Greatest Generation worked together to plan and conduct unveiling ceremonies on Oahu, Maui, and Kauai on June 4, 2021.

The event on Oahu was presented live on the internet featuring Gov. David Ige and First Lady Dawn Ige; Lynn Heirakuji, Co-Chair of the Hawaii Stamp Organizing Committee; Eileen Veach, U.S. Postal Service Hawaii District Manager; Major General Suzanne Vares-Lum, U.S. Army (Ret); Shinye Gima, a Nisei Veteran of the Military Intelligence Service, and Rachel Radona, granddaughter of a Nisei Veteran who served with Shiroku “Whitey” Yamamoto in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team’s Antitank Company. Yamamoto’s image was used as the basis for the Go For Broke Soldiers stamp. To view the video of the Hawaii stamp unveiling, click here.
