Kauai held its own stamp unveiling event at the Lihue Neighborhood Center on June 4. Kauai County Mayor Derek Kawakami gave a heartfelt speech and his uncle, Veteran Norman Hashisaka, did a “Final Roll Call” of all 62 Kauai KIA Soldiers from World War II. State Rep. Nadine Nakamura also took the time to be a part of this momentous event. Mahalo to Carolyn Morinishi, Hawaii Stamp Organizing Committee member, for arranging the event and to Nisei Veterans Legacy board member Bill Wright for providing valuable information for the touching roll call.
